Island Hvar - Vrboska

VRBOSKA is the smallest town on the island located in a long, narrow and pictursque bay, it is the unique fiord on the Adriatic, whose shores are connected by three stone bridges (like ones in Venice) giving the village an indescribable charm and an intimate wormth. The bay is surrounded with pine woods, vinyards and olive trees. This small town will attract you with it’s originality, peace and beauty. Due to it’s small stone bridges it carries a name ‘’Little Venice’’. It was populated in the 15th century by the inhabitants of the nearby village Vrbanj. It consists of two parts: the western part called Padva and the eastern called Pjaca. It has an outstanding local architecture, there are several Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque edifices. On the hill in the center of the village, there is a Renaissance church of St Our Lady of Mercy, built in a shape of fortress (1580) on the position of the former church (1465). It is one of the rare monuments of that type in Dalmatia. Its roof provides beautiful view of the surroundings and the sea. The parish church of St Lawrence was built in the 16th century, it’s presents configuration was gained in the Baroque period. Vrboska is also fishermen's village and it has a long fishermen tradition testified with unique Fisherman’s museum.
