This
picturesque fishermen and touristic town is situated in the heart of
Makarska riviera, 7 km east from Makarska. Podgora is a place where one can
relax, bathe in the crystal blue sea and enjoy natural beauties, mild
climate and rich cultural, sport and entertainment life. Along the bay there
are long pebble beaches and promenades. At the place of the former
fisherman’s port, the new marina has been built where, during the summer,
many touristic boats and yachts are anchored. In town there are numerous
wellsprings of water suitable for drinking and a medicinal salt water spring
Klokun.
The most
important cultural monuments is the church of All Saints, built in 1764 and
the Baroque church of Heart of Jesus built in 1804.
On
the day of town’s patron St. Vicenco a big sacral and civil festivity is
held in Gornja Podgora.
Active
hollidays lovers have at disposal sport courts for volleyball, basketball,
tennis, bowling. Water skiing, surfing, diving, boat and speed boat driving
are also available.
In town restaurants and ‘konobas’ (taverns) guests can indulge in plenitude
of fish specialities, quality vines and good atmosphere.
There are also numerous possibilities for excursions (natural park Biokovo,
Blue and Red Lake near Imotski, boat trips to islands Brac, Hvar, Korcula
and Mljet).
Podgora is situated between two cities of rich monumental heritage- Split
(65 km) and Dubrovnik (135 km), and it is not far from the sanctuary of
Meðugorje. |
