The Roman  emperior Diocletian, who was of Dalmatian origin himself,has had built a huge palace into which he withdrew in the year 303.

The Diocletian's palace became the centre , out of which the medieval town of Split has developed,therefore ,this extraordinary  beutiful area abounds in historical and cultural monuments .It is recorded into the UNESCO register of monuments of universal importance.

   Long ago Split spilled over the walls of the Emperior's Palace and dragged its antique pearl into the shell of new urban shapes. Its face, turned to the sea, has been adorned with a line of marinas,ranked among the most beautiful ones on the Mediterranean. Tourists have the privilege of seeing perfomances of top quality known as the Split Summer Festival.Numerous sport sites,one of which is the "Hajduk" Football Stadium, are the masterpieces of sport architecture.

But the greatest attraction of Split are the people themselves; bright, smiling and loud, tall men and beautiful women. On the west side of Split harbour lays hill Marjan with numerous of beaches,and on the  its east side ,Split is continuing into quiet settlements like Stobrec and Podstrana.
